The Yangtze River estuary 12. 5m-deep channel has been opened since March 2010, which stretched to Taicang port before the end of 2010. Presently three impeding navigation waterways exist in the reaches from Nanjing and Liuhekou including Fujiang sandbank waterway, Tongzhou sandbank waterway and Baimao sandbank waterway. Because of the three waterways ,all downstream tidal current limit, they were influenced by runoff and tide where complex hydrodynamic condition, evolution of shoal, ups and downs of branch waterway influenced the maintenance and development of waterway. The paper studied the evolution law and main factors that influenced the stability of Biandan sandbank near its waterway through analysis on evolution of South Branch since the appearance of Xuliujing node.
