In modem mining industry,the blasting technique is the rock excavation and fragmentation techniques most widely adopted due to its economical and efficient aspects.However,compared with other methods,use of explosives in blasting is always limited by law as it may have a severe impact on the surrounding environment such as dust,noise and vibration.Especially,a ground vibration induced by blasting has to be paid much attention in the mining operation.The ground vibration level is regulated by three parameters: duration,amplitude (peak particle velocity/PPV) and frequency.Current study focuses on two parameters suggested by USBM for structure,i.e.amplitude and frequency.Hence,the control of PPVand dominant frequency are very important in order to design an appropriate blasting standard and minimize its environmental impacts.This paper discusses the propagation characteristics of blast-induced ground vibration in the open pit metal mine and the applicability of the numerical simulation to predict PPVby using 2D analysis code Ls-dyna based on the results of field experiments.Then,the measures for reduction and/or control of blast-induced ground vibration are discussed by means of numerical simulation in this study.
