Applicability of Theoretical Software to Design New Type of Alloys

The contribution deals with microstructure development of heterogeneous system based on Hoganas ASC 100.29 powder + manganese containing Master Alloy. The compacts in the form of concentric cylinders (the inner cylinder - Master Alloy and the outer cylinder - ASC 100.29 powder) were pressed at 600 MPa. Using Thermo-Calc software both solidus and liquidus temperatures of used Master Alloy composition were calculated. The cylindrical specimens were sintered at temperatures ranging from 700°C to 1200°C in atmosphere 90N_2/10H_2 with a dew-point less than -65°C. The microstructure of area surrounding interface ASC 100.29/Master Alloy was studied together with local chemical microanalyses. DICTRA software was applied for simulation of diffusion processes taking place during sintering. Calculated concentration profile of manganese was compared with experimental results.
