In February 2009 JSW (Jindal South West) Blast Furnace no.3 was successfully 'blown in'. With an annual production of 2.8 million tonnes, it became the largest blast furnace in India. The number 3 Furnace is a key facility in the ongoing expansion of JSW's Vidyanagar Works in Bellary, India. The site has 2 COREX~? Plants, and 2 other small blast furnaces which together produce 4.6 Mtpa hot metal. Blast furnace 3 expands the plant hot metal output to over 7 Mtpa. The role of Siemens VAI UK was as the main technology provider, with responsibility for the design of all primary blast furnace equipment along with construction and commissioning support. The scope of the project covered the stockhouse, high-efficiency hot blast stove system, pulverized coal injection, gas cleaning plant and the integration of a sophisticated automation system. The paper describes the main features of the Blast furnace and the Project execution plan from order signing to furnace start up.
