In August 2010, serious deformation occurred in Wangxia dangerous rock mass. It formed a large dangerous factor for the local resident and channel safety. Based on the detailed investigation of the new cracks, deformation history, GPS observations, total station monitoring and crack displacement monitoring data analysis, analyzed comprehensively the deformation and reasons of the dangerous rock. The results show that the overall displacement direction of the dangerous rock body is towards to SW with obvious subsidence deformation. Mainly controlled by five key cracks, every crack interacted. The cracks in the west side and the expansion settlement deformation of the edge crack started up by the deformation of the cracks in the east side of the rock, the deformation strength in the east is stronger than the west. 7×104 m3 falling rock mass were caused by the continuous deformation of crack T12 and crack T16 in the dangerous rock body and the block between crack T16 and crack T11 were overall collapsed. The rocks in the west side of crack T11 were unsteady. The rock body was cut into wedge shape by sub prime cracks that were generated from crack T13 and the displacement direction was to SW with continuous fall-block phenomenon.
