Because of its size, low emission, high temperature operation and resulting high efficiency, the high-temperature fuel cell is ideally suited to commercial, industrial cogeneration and utility distributed generation applications. It typically operates at >500°C, sufficiently high to allow practical internal reforming and cogeneration/hybrid applications. The heart of any fuel cell power plant consists of one or more power-generating fuel cell stacks comprising individual cell packages. Each cell package is composed of active components (anode, cathode, electrolyte) and cell hardware (bipolar plate, interconnect, current collectors, seal area). A fuel cell power plant also contains non-repeating stack, module and balance-of-plant (BOP) hardware/equipment.
