Principles of Creation of New Generation of Russian Multipurpose Rescue Vessels for Ice Conditions

In paper analysis two new Russian multipurpose Emer-gency Rescue and Response vessels (MPV) concepts, i.e. salvage vessel with icebreaker functions with power of 7 MW for operating in conditions of Baltic Sea, Far East and Arctic Ocean and salvage vessel with high ice class with power of 4 MW for Azov-Black and Caspian Seas regions. Complex combination of vessel's functions brings to mutually contradictory tendencies while defining hull forms, main particulars and other MPV properties. In despite from analog vessels built in other countries new MPV have to fulfill their functions even in the ice conditions and in the shallow water conditions. This factors cause towards increasing of vessels' length and breadth, hull forms changing subject to ice passing requirements, increasing of hull weight and power of propulsion unit.
