Water is the most crucial input in sugarcane production and hence, its use through micro irrigation systems to increase land, water and fertilizer use efficiency is the need of an hour. An experiment on Evaluation of fanjet irrigation system for intercropping in sugarcane (Co86032) for two plant canes and one ratoon crop was conducted at VSI experimentalfarm during 2006-07 to 2009-10. The cucumber (Shivneri) intercrop was cultivated underfanjet and conventional irrigation in paired method of planting in comparison with conventional furrow irrigation without intercropping. The results of the pooled data for three crop seasons revealed that, the cucumber intercrop can be successfully cultivated in paired row (90 -180 cm) method of planting underfanjet irrigation for achieving maximum net returns (Rs. 190594/- per ha) and B: C ratio (1: 2.86), without affecting cane and CCS. yield and without provision of additional irrigation arrangement for intercrop. The yield under fanjet irrigation with and without cucumber intercrop in paired row was 116.15 and 118.59 t/ha as compared to conventional irrigation with and without cucumber intercrop (104.50 and 105.85 t/ha) in paired row planting respectively. The yield of cucumber as an intercrop underfanjet irrigation system in paired row was 8.68 t/ha as against 5.71 t/ha under conventional irrigation in paired row planting.
