This contribution describes the effect of tungsten precursor and nickel promoter on the catalytic performance of carbon-supported Ni-W catalysts in phenol hydrodeoxygenation (HDO). Reduced W/C catalysts prepared from different tungsten precursors (silicotungstic (HSiW), phosphotungstic (HPW), and tungstic (HW) acids) and their Ni-promoted counterparts were tested in the phenol hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) at a hydrogen pressure of 1.5 MPa, at temperatures ranging from 423 to 573 K a weight hourly space velocity of 0.5-4 h.1. The most active monometallic catalyst was the one prepared from HPW precursor. However, regardless of the tungsten precursor, after Ni incorporation to the base W/C system, a large enhancement in catalyst performance was observed. The most active binary catalyst was also the one prepared from HPW precursor and promoted with Ni (Ni-W(P)).
