Patient Selection for Rechargeable Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal cord stimulation technology has evolved significantly since its' inception in 1967 (1). Radiofrequency externalized systems gave way to a fully implanted internal pulse generator (IPG) in 1984. The full evolution of SCS technology is highlighted in Figure 1. It is only since 2004 that we have had rechargeable systems with all three SCS manufacturers offering their own versions of rechargeable technology on the background of different proprietary pulse generation technology.
