Based on the 24-hour monitoring results of quality and quantity of wastewater discharged from the expressway service area, the three stages step feeding A/O biological contact oxidation process was proposed to treat expressway sen ice area wastewater which is of high levels of COD and ammonia nitrogen. By two stages continuous experiment lasting for two and half a months, the treatment effect of this process for treating wastewater with high levels of COD and ammonia nitrogen was studied. The experiment results indicated that: (1) the three stages step feeding A/O biological contact oxidation process applied to treat wastewater with high levels of COD and ammonia nitrogen, and alkalinity was a decisive factor for the nitrification efficiency and denitrification efficiency of this process, (2) when COD, TKN, ammonia nitrogen and TN concentration of the influent were lOOOmg/L, 200mg/L, 150mg/L and 200mg/L respectively, and HRT was 36 hours, the removal efficiencies achieved for COD, TKN, ammonia nitrogen and total nitrogen were higher than 95%, 98%, 98% and 80% respectively. The effluent quality was superior to the first discharge standard of integrated wastewater discharge standard (GB89781996).
