The fouling behavior of Bovine serum albumin (BSA) on Po)y(acrylic acid)-graft-polypropylene membrane was studied by flux and streaming potential mearurement. A pair of electrode was used to measure the streaming potential of PP and grafted membranes. The zeta potential of grafted membranes calculated by streaming potential was negative in most pH range.The results show that the grafted membranes are markedly pH-dependence on both water permeability and antifouling behavior. All membranes show the most serious fouUng behavior at pH 4.7(the isoelectric point IEP of BSA) and the smallest flux decline at pH 3. Compared with the ungrafted PP membrane, grafted membranes show more serious fouling behavior at pH 3, whereas 18% grafted membrane has a certain antifouling behavior at pH 4.7 and 8. The streaming potential of membranes changes with the BSA fouling on membrane. Therefore the streaming potential of membrane could be a adjutant means to evaluate fouling behaviour.
