Simulating Dust in Environmental Engineering of Large Open-Air Coal Yard

There have been no previous studies on the patterns of generating coal dust in the open-air coal yard. This study created a model that is fit for large open-air coal yard based on formulas review analysis, wind tunnel experiments and computational fluid dynamics numerical simulation. In this study, we aim to (1) unify the single stack pattern of coal dust models from previous formulas studies and test the formulas with wind tunnel experiment (2) transform dust pattern from single stack scale to large scale open-air yard based on numerical simulation; (3) establish a mathematical model on generating dust in large-scale open-air coal yard. The results show that (l) factors affect dust intensity on large open-air coal yard are coal categories, local wind speed, threshold speed, and area of stack surface; (2) dust pattern on large open-air coal yard, which involved a scale effect coefficient is different from single stack or small yard. This study is significant because this model can be quantitatively studied on large scale yard dust pattern and can be helpful to dust pollution management
