This paper presents a hybrid 2D-3D space vector modulation algorithm to control the output voltage of three-phase four-wire voltage-sourced inverters in islanded power systems. The numerically efficient algorithm drives a balanced three-phase output voltage even when supplying an unbalanced load condition. In addition to the balanced voltage at the point of common coupling, the proposed algorithm offers synchronization controllability over the power angle of the inverter output, and hence provides control over power flow. Harmonic analysis of the inverter output voltage under the hybrid 2D-3D control algorithms yields a small THD of the line voltage. Various MATLAB/Simulink simulation studies are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
