Switching Loss Characteristics of Advanced DPWM Methods Using Space Vector Based Clamping Sequences

This paper analyzes the inverter switching loss characteristics of space vector based discontinuous PWM (bus-clamping) sequences. The discontinuous PWM (DPWM) sequences considered in this paper are 012 and 721 sequences. Utilizing these two sequences and varying the zero state at a spatial angle γ where γ is between 0~0 and 60~0 an infinite number of advanced DPWM (ADPWM) methods can be generated. The aim of the paper is to analyze the inverter switching losses of ADPWM methods. Also it will be shown that steady state line current distortion during high modulation indices is reduced significantly compared with the conventional SVPWM (CSVPWM). So, compared with the CSVPWM the proposed ADPWM methods are advantageous both in reducing line current distortion as well as inverter switching losses.
