The causes for acoustic noise emissions of sheeted electrical steel inductors in PWM operation are explained in theory. A proposal for reducing the noise basing on the theoretical insights is made, changing the mechanical properties of the inductor. Finally, an excerpt of extensive noise measurements based on this proposal is shown.
