The paper describes 50kW power electronic converter control system entirely based on FPGA. Furthermore, the construction of converter prototype, which is now prepared for accreditation of european electrical standards, is also briefly presented. The paper focuses on the software architecture that retains FPGA control system advantages such as flexibility of scaling costs and available functions or possibility to implement complex and time consuming algorithms by parallelization in hardware. Thanks to that fact small FPGA chip can be used and cost is comparable to standard DSP microcontroller realization. However, in case of FPGA, greater scaling abilities and much larger computing power of parallel hardware is achieved.
