Through using DTA, microscopic observation, high-temperature storage and second quantity test method to study seven different proportions of red lead and silicon delay composition, the results revealed that: under the same test conditions, for the Pb3O4-Si binary component, the composition can be easily ignited when the content of Pb3O4 is less than 50%.The burning rate would speed up with the increase of Pb3O4 units ranging from 50% to 70%, and when Pb3O4 reaches at 70% degree ,the burning rate would be fastest with the most stable combustion and high-temperature storage performance, which further is suitable for low segment based formulation to delay combustion formula.While as the content of Pb3O4 is within 70%-95% range, the burning rate would decrease with the increment of Pb3O4.Especially when the Pb3O4 surpassed 80%, the delay combustion would tend to display different types of reactions.Early under the influence ot thermal and the Si reaction with O2 form the decomposition of Pb3O4 and the medium-term PbO reaction with Si and the last stage the Si reaction with PbO after the layer of PbO-SiO2 would melt and the oxidation film of SiO2 falling off.Obviously, the main reaction of Pb3O4-Si type delay composition have different types of combustion as the change of Pb3O4 content.
