Heavy Metal Ions Adsorption Characteristics of Coal Tar Pitch-based Activated Carbon Fibers with Steam Activation Conditions
Pollution continues to be a major threat to the ecology. Because of this, low-cost, lightweight, and adsorbent materials are needed to remove large molecule pollutants, such as proteins, radioactive material, and other industrial emissions,NO_x and SO_x. Powdered activated carbon (AC) is currently being used to remove contaminants in wastewater streams. However, powdered carbon cannot be easily processed into sheets or felt. Activated carbon fibers (ACFs), on the other hand, can be readily formed into cloth, sheets, and felt. Thus, this variety type of fibers can be an ideal replacement for powdered AC. The ACFs are characterized by their large internal surface areas and high degrees of porosity. The production of the ACFs with specific pore sizes is of particular interest because this advance would allow the rational design of the ACFs for adsorbing specific compounds from gases or liquids.
