In fine chemicals industry, to replacement liquid mineral acids (HF, H2SO4) by recyclable solid acids affords many advantages such as easily separation and dramatic reduction of waste [1]. With increasing attention to biomass as it is renewable, widely available, cheap, and environmental friendly, sugar molecules and starch were used as raw materials for solid acids preparation. Amorphous carbon material with a high density of sulfonic acid sites was prepared by sulfonation of incompletely carbonized D-glucose or sucrose [2] and exhibited high catalytic performance as a stable catalyst for various liquid-phase acid-catalyzed reactions [3,4]. Mesoporous carbon obtained after low temperature carbonization of expanded starch was reported to be an effective catalyst in the esterification of succinic acid [5, 6], To reduce energy consume and shorten carbonization time, our group used sulfuric acid as a dehydration accelerant in the carbonization process. More important, this method may provide a way to recycle the acidic water generated in sulfonation. Solid acids via sulfuric acid charring and sulfonation from sucrose, cellulose or bamboo sawdust showed high catalytic performance in synthesis of biological active molecules [7, 8] and hydrolysis of cellulose [9]. To continue our research on the catalytic performances of the biomass char sulfonic acids, in this paper, char sulfonic acid using bamboo sawdusts (denoted as BC-SO3H) as raw materials was applied in synthesis of fine chemicals such as esters and terpineol.
