This article assessed the underground shopping mall safety from four aspects, namely "prevention and fire-fighting capacity, building, people, circumstance". Firstly, based on the statistics of the underground shopping mall accidents, the 4 aspects of the underground shopping mall safety were gained. Secondly, the model was designed to assess the underground shopping mall safety by means of expert investigation and with the method of AHP and fuzzy comprehensive assessment. The target layer of the safety assessment model was the underground shopping mall safety. The criterion layers, which are 4 parts, were the capacity of prevention and firefighting, building, people, circumstance. The 16 index layers were associated with the secondary indicators. Again, it was proposed that an underground shopping mall be divided into a number of relatively independent regional components. The underground shopping mall fire safety can be determined by the fire safety assessment of the each regional component. Finally, the assessment model was applied to evaluate and analyze the underground shopping mall safety. This model was exemplified in one underground shopping mall. The results show that the assessment methodology of the underground shopping mall safety is reasonable, effective and feasible.
