The German Functionalist Approach to Tran-slation of Interpretation Panels of Geosites-A Case Study of Qinling Zhongnanshan Geopark of China

摘要

As the world becomes more globalized, China will receive millions of thousands of tourists from overseas. How to effectively solve the problems existing in the English explication system and improve the translation ability of the guide in the geopark is an important task of the manager of the geopark. This paper describes the present situation of the English explication system and intends to start further discussion and study on this issue in order to improve the practicability of the English explication system in the geopark. It applies the German functionalist approach to analyze the English translation of interpretation panels of geosites in the Cuihuashan Scenic area of Qinling Zhongnanshan Geopark which are for the ordinary overseas tourists. And it expounds how the translator employs the strategies of domestication and foreignization in translating the interpretation panels, which will not only publicize the geotourist resources,but also disseminate Chinese culture and attract foreign tourists.
