A Statistical Approach to Determine the Reliability of the Products of Electric Apparatus

The technology of the reliability theory and its application is a new technology. It has important effect to ensure and improve the quality of the products. In the reliability test of the products of electrical apparatus, in order to determine the reliability level of a configuration of electric apparatus , a reliability life test is carried out on N units of the configuration , a times—to-failure sample {Ti, i=1, 2, ... , N} is obtained. In order to improve the reliability level of the configuration of electric apparatus, some corrective actions to the configuration have been taken without introducing any new failure modes by engineering. For the new configuration of electric apparatus , there are n items that have operated for a while without any failures, saying t1,t2,...,tn hours. The problem is to determine whether the reliability of new configuration of electric apparatus is improved significantly according to the two data sets. There was no analytic method existing for the studied case.In this paper, a new analytical method for the studied case is given. Analytical formulas are given for the most practical case, where the times-to-failure distributions are Wei bull distribution. A numerical example is computed by using the proposed method.
