Over the past few years, sizing-crushing technology has found widespread application in the coal preparation sector. However, only limited expositions have been made so far on the theoretical basis of this technology. Following a brief introduction to the state-of-art and the special features of the technology, the paper presents an in-depth theoretical analysis of the effect of the speed of crushing rolls (i.e. rate of loading) on the power consumption and size of product of a crusher according to the Griffith crack extension theory, as well as the methods foe determining the speed of rolls and predicting the size of crushed product. A detailed description is made of the following aspects: the technical features, product size, crushing efficiency, power consumption, and operation reliability of the crusher based on the extensive data obtained through field application of the crusher. At last, the paper elaborates on the developing trend of this crushing technology. The study may serve as a theoretical basis for the design of such kinds of crushers, help deepening the understanding of the technology and provide a valuable reference for making selection of sizing crushers.
