The Research of Application of DFC in the Architecture Design

The increasing market competition requires the institutions of architecture design change traditional design methods in order to meet the requirement of the commission and to improve efficiency and quality of the design. Good design achievement should first of all economic, and this requires the application of value engineering in the design work. However, because of the complexity of architecture design, it will lengthen the design cycle if to analyze with the value engineering after the design, while the standard of quota is difficult to decide before the design if to use the method of quota design. The application of collateral design pattern is an effective way to improve the efficiency of the design, and the theory of DFC (Design for Cost) which is based on this theory is economic. This article analyzes the features of traditional design patterns and the collateral design pattern, and it suggests a new design pattern based on the theory of DFC of the cost of architecture design. The article also probes into some problems in the pattern, such as the setting up of the pattern, the lack of information and conflict management. The feature of the pattern is to integrate the analyzing work of value engineering with the work of design, so that the two can unite into one.
