Introduction It is well established that liver has several vital functions in metabolism,hormone synthesis,detoxification,and regulation of blood glucose levels to ensure homeostasis in the entire body (Bauman et al,2006;Jenkins and McGuire,2006).In addition,the liver plays a crucial role in the acute phase response to intruding pathogens (Tacke et al,2009.).Current feeding practices in high-producing beef and dairy cattle use highly fermentable diets to increase growth rates and milk production,but because of microbial disturbances,they predispose cattle to digestive disorders such as ruminal acidosis(Khafipour et al,2009).Field studies in the USA estimate that 26% of mid-lactation dairy cows have subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA)(Enemark,2008).SARA can promote health disorders such as diarrhoea,laminitis,liver abscesses,increased bacterial endotoxin levels and inflammation characterized by increases in acute-phase proteins (Plaizier et al.,2008).
