Implementation of an Ultra High Speed Broadband Access Network using FTTP in an Electrical Distribution Network

Northpower has built a stage 1 network providing next generation PON access to the business community in Whangarei. Ultra high speed internet, private IP and voice services are currently supported and being delivered to end customers in conjunction with Northpower's "launch" partner TelstraClear. Designs have been developed for stage 2 of the rollout, i.e. for the whole of Whangarei. Concept designs have been further developed for a Northland initiative, where the system scales to cover all of Northland. Whilst there will of course be differences in networks based on regional requirements, Northpower firmly believes that the designs as outlined above provide a sound "cookie cutter" model by which networks can be built and integrated in other regions in New Zealand.
