This study uses an FEA-based model validated with an industrial wiredrawing operation to conduct soft experiments and build a response surface for various objectives as a function of design variables. This in turn is used for optimizing the wiredrawing pass schedule. The emphasis is on reduction of the number of soft experiments to reduce the computational cost in an industrial environment. The accuracy of response surface, selection of algorithm for the global optimization problem, and use of the optimizer for typical industrial cases are discussed.
