摘要

Overwhelming scientific evidence shows that CO2 emissions from fossil fuels have caused the climate to change, and a dramatic reduction of these emissions is essential. However, much of the industrial and civil applications rely on fossil fuels. For example, carbon is extensively used as reducing agent in metal smelting, and plenty of CO2 will be formed after carbon combustion. Furthermore, most of chemicals are also obtained by the conversion of fossil fuels. Therefore, one of the ways to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels is to develop new methods for metal smelting and chemicals production.
