ISPRS funded the short-term project "Analysis of e-learning Software and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and GIS" which was carried out by the authors. Their work aims to make the existing offers in e-leaming more transparent. Available learning software related to Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and GIS has been identified and classified according to its content and other criteria, among which quality is the most important. Therefore, the paper discusses quality of e-learning and defines common criteria by which to 'measure' e-learning quality. Emerging from this discussion, relevant criteria for the evaluation procedure have been defined in a criteria list. Such a criteria list is a normative-static assessment tool that made it easy to evaluate a wide range of learning arrangements within a short period and without time consuming empirical studies in advance. The criteria list includes not only aspects of content, level and didactic approach, but also design, quality of instruction, quality of implementation, usability, accessibility and availability, up-to-dateness, completeness, etc. 30 e-learning products have been evaluated according to the identified criteria. The paper presents the results and summarizes trends in quality of current e-learning. Since evaluation should be as much objective as possible, an online-survey was prepared. We introduce this environment and ask readers for participation.
