A new opportunity for outcoupling enhancement in OLEDs is demonstrated based on conductive low-index layers (CLILs) of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulfonate) (PEDOT.PSS). When the micropatterned ITO electrodes coated with the CLIL are used in OLEDs, 25%-75% improvement in external quantum efficiency is demonstrated with respect to conventional devices. The proposed structure is shown to work effectively with little spectral or angular dependence.
