Digital simulation is a powerful mean to predict the voltage dip performance of a power network. Voltage dip characteristics can be accurately reproduced by means of present simulation tools and using a stochastic prediction procedure that could incorporate the random nature of the voltage dip causes and the behaviour of sensitive equipment during this type of events. When voltage dips are caused by faults and the retained voltage is the only variable of concern, a frequency-domain technique can be efficiently used for prediction and evaluation. If the characterisation of voltage dips has to include other variables, a time-domain technique will usually be the best solution.
