In order to promote recycling of waste slag and glass, the authors have tried to apply hydrothermal reactions to create advanced materials from iron making slag and waste glass. Under hydrothermal conditions such as 200~300oC and 30~40MPa with H_2O, powders made of slag and glass can be sintered to become solidified ceramics or glass materials. These conditions are more environmental -friendly than general sintering processes at high temperature because of low temperature and usage of H_2O in hydrothermal conditions. Some examples will be discussed on the application of hydrothermal reaction to recycling of BF slag and waste glass to make porous materials.
