Since the discovery of infrared radiation by Herschel in 1800,' many differenttypes of infrared detectors have been developed. Based on different detectingmechanisms and varying in manufacturing cost, they are widely used in industry,medical, and military areas.2 In general, infrared detectors can be divided into twocategories, photon detectors and thermal detectors. Photon detectors can befurther divided into intrinsic, extrinsic, free carrier, and quantum well/superlatticedetectors. Thermal detectors include ferroelectric/pyroelectric detectors andbolometers.
