When power generation companies consider gas turbine capital parts repairs (turbine blades and vanes), they can go to market under one of several different strategies. In this presentation, it is shown that simplistic “three bids and a buy” strategy, and other commonly observed practices, do not actually provide real value for the operator. By looking at the repair procurement process, and at repair vendor technologies, it is shown how maximum value can be extracted by working co-operatively with vendors and applying modifications and upgrades to parts at the time of repair. Lastly, some actual fielded examples of this improved strategy are presented.
