Experience in combustion and waste incineration flue gas applications shows that the corrosivity can vary widely depending on the range of fuel composition and location in the flue gas cleaning plant. This paper describes different stainless steels that are used in flue gas cleaning systems but also the behavior of the alloys in artificial scrubber environments and results from field tests. An overall table showing the limits of different grades with respect to chlorides, fluorides and temperature in simulated scrubber environments is presented. Service experience confirming data from the different test is also included.
