The electronic industry has been finding an increasing number of incidents of unauthorized and counterfeit parts in the supply chain and in fielded products. One risk factor of procuring or receiving counterfeit parts is purchase from part brokers. Part brokers are intermediaries or agents that sell electronic parts generally without stocking the parts themselves. This presentation introduces the electronic part distribution market place, provides best practices that should be followed for assessing a distributor, and finally shows why conducting business with a broker is a high risk activity that should be avoided.
