With regard to the production of flexible systems as prototypes or in small and medium series it is important to produce structures in a repeatable manner with a small initial effort as possible. On the other hand, the production process must be adjustable enough to easily incorporate changes to the system. The smart systems we examined have fluidic components and electroconductive structures amongst other components. Examples for these smart systems are flow rate sensors, intelligent band-aids as well as RFID labels. This paper presents a cost-efficient production of electroconductive structures. Technologies to produce these structures should not only be applicable to rigid substrates and materials, but also to mechanically flexible systems such as flex boards. For these requirements, only two technologies could be considered: screen printing and ink jet printing. To assure the applicability from small to large batch production hotmelts were used as printing media which are also used in the offset printing.
