In a Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET), as per [1] and [2] standards, survivability of Inter-ring traffic in the event of Primary node failure or ring interconnection facility failure is achieved by having STS and VT path level service selectors in interconnecting Primary and Secondary nodes. Scalability and capability issues are inherent when path level service selectors are utilized. This paper addresses these issues and suggests a new method for providing survivability using Tandem Line Level Bridges and Selectors for Dual Ring Interconnected traffic.
