We assessed the renal protective effects of moderate chronic exercise (EX), EX plus olmesartan (OLS), EX plus azelnidipine (AZN), and the three together in a rat model of CRF. Male 5/6-nephrectomized Wistar-Kyoto rats were divided into six groups according to the following types of treatment for 12 weeks: 1) no EX (C); 2) EX with treadmill running (EX); 3) EX+OLS(10mg/ kg/day); 4) EX+AZN(3mg/kg/day); 5) EX+OLS(5mg/kg/day)+AZN(1.5mg/ kg/day); and 6) sham-operation (S). Simultaneous treatment of EX, OLS and AZN showed renal protective effects in this rat model suggesting that the treatment may affect the macrophage infiltration to the glomerulus, the fibroblast accumulation in the glomerulus, the mesangial activation, and the podocyte differentiation.
