摘要

Application of structural reliability as the theoretical basis for the partial factor method ensures improved economic performance together with adequate safety performance. In the process of converting the principles of structural reliability into deterministic design rules through a method of calibration, the emphasis is usually placed on actions while systematic calibration of the materials standards is limited. Parametric studies of selected reinforced concrete members are used to derive guidelines for structural resistance performance that could be used as basis-of-structural-design requirements to be considered in the formulation of materials standards. Parameters taken into account consist of the specification of characteristic material properties, model and resistance factors, and the nature of failure consequences for the various design situations. Such explicit reliability guidelines for the specification of structural resistance should improve the unification between the standards for the basis of structural design, actions and structural materials.
