Faced the actual request of surface finishing of crankshaft parts with larger size, a technique project, horizontal barrel finishing, is put forward and established. On the basis of expounding the machining mechanism, this paper lays stress on analyzing the complex condition of relative motion, which includes mathematical model, formulas for motion locus, cutting speed and cutting angle. Based on the specialty of crankshaft with larger size, its forming cause and avoiding measure is analyzed. Through advanced software, main factors affecting the finishing effect are analyzed in theory, which settles theoretic basis for its industrial application. Finally this process is shown as a perfect finishing process through the machining instance of crankshaft with larger size.
