China Cement Industry: Operation and Trends of Industry Policy

Cement industry is an important basic raw materials industry of investment type. Its output value takes up about 40% of the total of building materials industry. By 2005, the number of cement enterprises above designated size through out China is 5,149, with total assets of 400 billion RMB yuan and 1.4 million of employees. The production capacity reaches about 1.2 billion tons. State-owned and state-holding economic sector accounting for 30%, the cement industry is highly market-driven and competitive. There exist few administrative measures of restriction, except for production license management.
