Carbon and Energy Management: Innovative Approaches for a Responsible Energy Future

The greatest challenge this century will be to provide the energy the world needs – secure and affordable, and cleaner, more efficient and emitting much less carbon dioxide than currently. With hydrocarbons expected to continue providing the foundation of the world?s energy supply until at least mid-century, legislators are challenging energy producers to manage carbon dioxide emissions. Using the Shell Group?s (Shell) broad and growing experience base in sustainable energy, the speaker will illustrate how the organization is responding to the environmental and legislative challenges of climate change. From this perspective, the speaker will describe the carbon and energy management (CEM) program that Shell Global Solutions has developed, which provides a framework for energy-intensive businesses to assess their current energy and carbon position with a view to saving energy, reducing costs and controlling emissions. The framework is used to compare a client's current position with optimal operating practices and then propose options for improvement, such as energy-efficiency programs, emissions mitigation technologies or carbon allowance trading. In addition to highlighting Shell?s portfolio of successful and demonstration projects across its asset base for managing carbon dioxide intensity and reducing net emissions, the speaker will explore how Shell Global Solutions? CEM consultancy is benefiting other companies facing the same challenges.
