Alloy 602CA is a high temperature carbide-strengthened high nickel alloy with excellent creep properties combined with outstanding oxidation carburization and metal dusting resistance. Alloy 602CA was introduced in early 1990's and over the years has found numerous applications (1) and is now gaining increased interest for use in furnace muffles. The benefits of using Alloy 602CA include the ability to operate at higher temperatures and experience longer furnace muffle life. Higher operating temperatures allow increased production rates, since target annealing temperatures on the work piece can be reached more quickly. Higher operating temperature also increases the capabilities and flexibility of an operator for processing heat resistant and aerospace alloys which require higher annealing temperatures. Alloy 602CA provides a combination of increased operating temperatures in conjunction with longer furnace muffle life when compared to Alloy 601 and other common furnace muffle materials. This alloy suffers less creep damage than Alloy 601, even if operated at higher temperatures (within the limits shown in this paper). Likewise, the oxidation resistance of Alloy 602CA is markedly improved compared to Alloy 601 and thus will have longer life even when operating at higher temperatures. Therefore, Alloy 602CA is suggested as an upgrade for all furnace muffles.
