GC/IRMS can be a useful method when trying to determine whether PAHs detected in background locations originated from a particular known PAH source but it is important to establish onsite MGP CSIR variability. In many cases carbon isotope ratio differences will be small therefore measurements must be very precise to differentiate sources reliably.
