In this paper, the effect of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol)fiber on paper properties was investigated. The mechanical properties of the paper were characterized when adding PVA fibers into softwood pulp and the pulp of corrugated paper. The results showed that the tearing index, breaking length and Ring Crush Test (RCT) strength were all improved obviously. PVA fiber could be used as a reinforcement agent and embossing fiber added into all kinds of pulps. The strength, stiffness and uniformity could be improved for the paper with the addition of PVA fibers. The best strengthening effect can be achieved when PVa fibers were added into the pulps as following conditions: the PVA dosage was 10%~20%; the temperature was 100~110°C; and at the same time some pressure was needed.
