Liberty Speciality Steels Produces Ultraclean Specialty Steels With a VIM X-eed Unit From SMS Mevac GmbH/SMS Group: The Success Story of a Development Contract

SMS Mevac has successfully completed the development of its first reference VIM plant at the company Liberty Speciality Steels. It was a brown-field project and SMS Mevac had to design the facilities to fit into an existing site footprint. It was a very good opportunity for SMS Mevac to work closely together with the engineers from Liberty Speciality Steels. SMS Mevac was able to accommodate the operator's prospective requirements in the design and in the overall plant layout. Finally, since this is a plant facilitating a demanding process, it was designed (manufactured, installed and commissioned) to a very high specification, in terms of vacuum performance, productivity and metallurgical capability.
