Shallow Gas Shut-Off Using Rigid Polymer Gel in Lake Maracaibo,Venezuela

This paper describes the application of a rigid polymer gel to shut off potential gas-bearing zones in an openhole section located below a surface casing shoe in Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela.The objective was to minimize the risk of shallow gas influx during continued conventional drilling operations.
