ISOLATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF C_(60)F_(10)O

We have isolated Ci C60F10O from a mixture of fluorofullerene oxides. Under the most commonly-used conditions for HPLC separation of fullerenes (Cosmosil Buckyprep column, toluene elution), it co-elutes with the main isomer of CeoFisO, and was separated from this by using a Cosmosil 5 PYE column. The series C6oF,,0 (n = 2,4,6, 8,10) involves contiguous addition of fluorine, in keeping with previous conjectures. On standing in CDCI3, C60F10O rearranges to a second isomer.
